In 2011, Heritage FCU partnered with 170 non-profit organizations in its branch communities. In addition, the credit union donated funding and/or in-kind gifts of more than $148,000 to these organizations in order to support their various worthwhile causes in the community. The credit union’s employees, volunteer board of directors, as well as friends and families volunteered their personal time and talents to 83 community organizations. Overall, 218 people volunteered more than 2,600 hours to local community organizations over the course of 2011.
President/CEO Ruth Jenkins said, “Credit unions are rooted in the philosophy of ‘People Helping People,’ and I am so proud that Heritage FCU maintains strong ties to this philosophy. Not only are our employees and volunteer board of directors highly involved in giving back to the community, but many encourage their friends and families to volunteer as well, sharing the ‘People Helping People’ philosophy beyond the walls of the credit union. These 2,600 hours were volunteered during nonbusiness hours, in the evenings and on weekends, which means these volunteers gave up their personal time to support local organizations and the individuals they serve.”
